The Côtes-de-Fer Canal is the heartbeat of our farming community. For generations, it has brought life to the fields and put food on the tables of hundreds of families. But over time, sediment buildup, debris, and deterioration have slowed the water to a trickle, leaving farmland dry and families struggling to grow their crops.
Phase 1 – Canal Clean-Up ($9,500 Goal)
Our dedicated volunteers are working shovel by shovel, bucket by bucket to clean the full 6 km canal. Over 80 people come out each week to tackle the debris and restore the water’s path.
You can support the clean-up here:

Phase 2 – Canal & Dam Repair ($20,000 Goal)
Once the canal is cleaned, we must repair the damaged cemented portions and the dam to ensure steady water flow for generations to come.
Your donation toward the repair phase will:
Without water, crops fail. Without crops, families face hunger and economic hardship. Restoring this canal will mean restored livelihoods, stronger food security, and renewed hope for an entire community.
Every dollar counts, and every hand that joins us makes the load lighter. With your help, we can finish the clean-up, complete the repairs, and see water flowing again before bean planting season in November.

Day 1 – Côtes-de-Fer Canal Clean-Up Begins On May 30th, 2025, seven brave men came together with machetes, shovels, and faith. With no machines, no funding, and no media — only love for their community — they began cleaning the canal by hand. This was the first step in bringing water back to the farmlands of Côtes-de-Fer, Haiti. What started with seven has grown into a grassroots initiative— and now, they need your support. Help them keep going: 🔗 GoFundMe – Drop of Hope: Côtes-de-Fer Canal Clean-Up Every drop counts. Monsier Guitho- Canal Committee Spokesperson!
This 33-second glimpse captures the heart of the Côtes-de-Fer Canal Project — neighbors, friends, and families working side by side to bring life back to their farmland. Tools in hand, sweat on their brows, they clear debris, dig deep, and open the path for water to return.
Among the many who join us each week is Madame Danie, an 80+ year-old resident of Passe Herlin whose home sits right in front of the canal. Every Friday, she picks up her rake and joins the work. She says she’s tired of losing the crops she plants every season because the canal hasn’t brought water in years. Her determination — standing side by side with younger volunteers — is a powerful reminder that this is not just about water. It’s about dignity, perseverance, and the right of every farmer, young or old, to reap the fruit of their labor..
Born on April 4, 1980, in Haiti, Monsieur Romilar Fleurimond is a devoted community leader, farmer, and family man whose life is deeply rooted in the soil and spirit of Côtes-de-Fer. His early education began at La Ronde in Martissant, followed by his primary and secondary studies at Collège Catherine Flon. He later attended the Faculty of Applied Sciences, pursuing a degree in Electromechanical Engineering through his third year before closing that chapter, and also completed technical training in building construction at the Centre Polyvalent de Carrefour.
A father of five—three daughters and two sons—Monsieur Fleurimond understands firsthand the importance of providing for one’s family and securing a future for the next generation. His work as a farmer keeps him closely connected to the land, which fuels his passion for the Côtes-de-Fer Canal Restoration Project.
As the Coordinator of the canal restoration committee, he has become the driving force behind an initiative that goes far beyond repairing an irrigation system. Under his leadership, the project has embraced the Haitian tradition of kombit—neighbors, friends, and families working side by side for the common good. He has united people from all walks of life to clear debris, rebuild damaged sections, and restore water to the fields, knowing that a functioning canal means abundant harvests, food security, and renewed dignity for farmers.
With a vision anchored in resilience and progress, and a heart committed to his community, Monsieur Fleurimond continues to inspire others to believe that collective effort can turn long-held dreams into reality. His life’s work is a testament to the belief that when people unite with determination and purpose, transformation is not only possible—it is inevitable.

In this video, you’ll see what has already been done and get a clear idea of what remains to fully clean the entire length of the canal. Over the past 11 workdays, our volunteers have cleaned 1.2 km of the canal out of a total of 6 km. We still have a lot of work ahead before the cleaning is complete and we can begin repairing the cemented portions. All of this must be done before water can flow again in time for the bean planting season in November. Every shovel, every bucket, every helping hand brings us closer to restoring life to these fields.
